THE SIAMESE
This breed represents the ultimate in feline beauty, and is the most instantly
recognizable of all the breeds.
With
the pointed colors, blue eyes, wedge shaped head, large ears, long, fine body
andits whippy tail. They are a very vocal cat, can often sound like a baby
crying, and sometimes will carry on a running conversation with their owners.
This is an active breed, always looking for playmates and toys, except when
they curl up with you in bed.
The first Siamese had very dark points and were called seal Point, then the
Blue Point, Chocolate Point. And Lilac Point were developed. The Siamese tabby
was used in 1924 to re-introduce tabby points. (Lynx Points) found on the
cats from Thailand (Siam) and still seen there now at the temples. Later,
the red gene was added to let the Siamese be shown in all its original colors
and beauty.
THE ORIENTAL SHORTHAIR
Developed to explore all the many possibilities of patterns and colors, it
is simply just like a SIAMESE in another pattern or color .
This
man-made breed was developed during World War II by the British cat fancy.
When travel to mate their Siamese was impossible, due to the shortage of petrol,
they bred their cats to Russian Blues and other short-hair breeds which then
produced unique patterns and colors that duplicated many of the original cats
from Siam (Thailand)
These cats have green eyes but the solid whites may have blue, green or odd
eyes. Orientals, as they are called, all have the same temperament and agility
of their Siamese cousins. People who often are determined to buy a pointed
Siamese leave with an oriental kitten.
Both of these breeds are very intelligent and make wonderful pets, but be warned that you will not own a Siamese or OSH kitten, they will own you.
